About

Paul and Guen

Our Story

Hi. We’re Paul and Guen. We’ve been together since 1988 and married since 1995. We started off as high school sweethearts and we fell pretty madly in love. That time was followed by about 15 years in a dysfunctional, roller-coaster relationship, regularly challenged by alcoholism, codependency, and its effect on us as individuals and as a couple. After a decade and a half of both love and chaos, the only thing holding us together was a mustard seed of hope and habit.

In 2003, we each began our own process of recovery as we worked to repair and strengthen our marriage. We had multiple rounds of marriage counseling, got involved in the 12 step community, and, in general, learned how to ask for help. Our efforts have led us to a level of intimacy, trust, gratitude, and love that we never knew was possible.

We got to this place as a result of hard work and the support of a community of recovering couples that were willing to provide guidance and, quite frankly, tell us what to do to heal, nourish, and grow our relationship. Now we want to pay all of that forward.

Our Mission

  • To provide hope that you can have a strong, loving, and intimate relationship after active alcoholism

  • To normalize your experience … you need to know that YOU ARE NOT ALONE

  • To be here as an interactive support and resource

  • To inspire you into action because, if there’s one thing we’ve learned ... you can’t think your way into a better relationship.

Our Approach

As a coach, a counselor, and a couple in recovery, we provide relationship recovery coaching (not marriage counseling) from the peer-based perspective of a couple who’ve “been there”. Our goal is to bring you practical experience-based solutions, tips, strategies, and exercises which we’ve found to be effective at healing and strengthening our own relationships (with self, each other, and others) when consistently implemented.
